Tulsi/Banana face mask

I love a good face mask as a treat to my skin at least once a week. I also enjoy using botanicals to give some skin loving goodness, along with some light exfoliation. There are definitely some scary moments for my family as they come across me with some weird, gooey colours on my face.

I have been looking into some different herbs and powders to incorporate into my skin care especially those used in Ayurvedic beauty regimes. I am not fully knowledgeable on this practice but doing some research I read it is considered to be one of the worlds oldest healing and beauty sciences being around for more than 5000 years. It places a high importance on maintaining health through balancing your thoughts, your diet,, your lifestyle and through the use of herbs.

Many botanicals are used in Ayurvedic beauty care including Neem, Morgina, Frankincense, Ashwagandha and Tulsi to name a few.

The two components I chose to use in this face mask are frankincense powder and Tulsi. Frankincense is probably more well known to most people. You know - the gift given to baby Jesus in the Bible?? Tulsi is also known as Tulasi or holy basil. It is said there are over 180 varieties of Tulsi. Tulsi contains camphene which is said to work as a natural toner, and helpful for controlling excess sebum.

The other main ingredient in the dry mask is Green Banana flour. Green banana flour is basically whole unripe bananas, dried and ground into a powder. It can be used as a wheat flour substitute for those with gluten intolerance. It has a very mild banana aroma. As a huge amount of bananas are dumped because they are not “market worthy” this is an incredibly sustainable product using food products that would have otherwise been wasted. Green banana flour has anti-inflammatory properties and is said to give you skin a healthy glow. Sounds good to me! Other ingredients in the mask are green clay for some further detoxing and colloidal oatmeal for some soothing goodness. Mix it up to a paste with some aloe juice, spread it on your face with a brush or back of a spoon. Put your feet up, try not to scare anyone with your lovely dark green face and enjoy!
